"Mr.Breathe" is an original instrumental harmonica composition by yours truly, produced by James Atin-Godden at my beloved Silverthorn Studios. The music video was shot by my sister Cailleah Scott-Grimes. I would like to first and foremost thank both of these awesome and talented individuals for their patience and help in bringing this tune life.
As a child I was diagnosed with asthma, an illness which made me acutely focus on my breath for dear life, from time to time. I have many memories of having my head shoved into a humidifier or into the freezer, of having to carry those damn two-toned puffers around, of wheezing, doctor's visits, and of panicking when I couldn't inhale enough air to properly oxygenate my body. In grade 5, I had an attack that landed me in the hospital for a few days. It was serious. My classmates wrote me handwritten cards to encourage me in my recovery.
As an adult I have grown out of my asthma, partially from natural maturity but also from nearly a decade and a half of intense breath work. In my current physical state, I am often mistaken for a football player or a professional wrestler - I am a far cry from the gasping tot I once was. Through bodybuilding and playing the harmonica I have trained my lungs in a way that have forced them way beyond the limits they were once hardly capable of upholding even when I was just sitting still and doing nothing.
As a child, my mom had a nickname for me: Mr.B. Now that I'm all grown up, I've just added a few letters to the end of it ;)
Isn't it interesting how your greatest weakness can be converted into your greatest power?! Has anyone else had a similar experience? Enjoy the video - and watch til the end - there are many parts and it changes drastically as you go along :)
