Bryn Scott-Grimes is a US-Canadian harmonica player, guitarist, producer, & singer-songwriter based in Nashville. With influences ranging from psychedelic, baroque pop, blues, rock, folk, jazz, and country all the way to hip hop, reggae, and broadway, Bryn's musical tendencies are as diverse as a hearty salad. Since 2014, Bryn has released a slew of singles and drops new ones on a monthly basis. You can get them sent straight to your inbox along with other entertaining delights by signing up to his newsletter at the bottom of this page. Slated for release later this year, The Build is Bryn's debut EP, which was funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
Having grown up asthmatic, carrying puffers around everywhere (now asthma free), it is an utter paradox that Bryn now makes a living with his lungs. His intricate breath-work can be heard on numerous singles, albums, feature films and shorts, CBC Gem’s Rockin’ the Coffin (2020), Danger Dolan’s “The Ant Who Complains All Day” (2016), and Stealing the Sky (feature film by Marie Dame, directed by Megan Follows; for release in 2023). Bryn was also featured in JbyJ’s documentary Me & My Harmonica which won best documentary at the Canadian Ethnic Media Association awards in 2017. As a go-to session harp player, Bryn has played on recordings by Anna Gutmanis, Taylor Abrahamse, Steve Koven, and Goldpine to name a few.
Complimentary to his creative life, Bryn has a strong track record of entrepreneurship and community development. Before moving to Nashville in 2022, Bryn was the co-founder of Silverthorn Studios, a professional recording facility funded and built to support emerging and under-served artists in Toronto. Since its inception in 2016, Silverthorn supported many up and coming musicians, songwriters, producers, and engineers in addition to hosting established acts and music industry personnel like Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo), actor & musician Kiefer Sutherland, Canadian roots music heavyweight Ken Whiteley, legendary Eddie Kramer (producer; Jimi Hendrix, Woodstock), and Canadian radio broadcaster Alan Cross. Silverthorn closed its doors in April 2022, and as its founders now focus 100% on their solo music careers.
Since 2012, Bryn has taught over 3,000 1-on-1 harmonica lessons to people of all ages and backgrounds, and is currently building not one, but TWO harmonica apps that will be released within the next few months to serve the the global mouth-harp community. One of the apps will be the first of its kind - a social media and learning app dedicated solely to diatonic harmonica players, featuring hundreds of instructional videos, song videos with embedded tabs, a riff and technique library, a social content feed, and much more. You can find out more here.
